Monroe businessman James Moore recently took his oath as chairman of the LSU Board of Supervisors, saying the appointment was an honor, even as he also acknowledged the inherent challenges facing higher education officials across the state.

"I agreed to do it because, No. 1, I have strong belief that the future of our state depends on meeting the educational needs of our state, particularly higher education," he said. "We've made a lot of strides, but this is no time to start going backward."

Moore said that in his position as board chair of Louisiana's flagship university, he was committed to improving higher education everywhere, not the least of which was his alma mater.
