Grant to aid zoning efforts

The city of Monroe has been approved for a $322,500 grant to help rewrite the city's zoning ordinance.

The funding comes from the Louisiana Recovery Authority's Hurricane Gustav/Ike Disaster Recovery Community Development Block Grant program.

Thanks to city council approval, the block grant funds will be used to hire a consultant who will help city planners rewrite and upgrade the city's comprehensive zoning ordinance. City planning officials will begin the process of searching for a consultant to help write a comprehensive zoning ordinance to go with the recently updated comprehensive plan for the city of Monroe.
