LifeShare Blood Centers recently announced it has begun accepting 16-year-olds as potential blood donors.

Previously, blood donors had to be at least 17 years old to be considered eligible for blood donation, but effective immediately, 16-year-olds can become blood donors at LifeShare.

"It has been demonstrated that it is safe for 16-year-olds to donate blood," said LifeShare spokesperson Sherry Frankowicz. "This is a group of young people who are eager to begin their adult responsibilities. What better way than by becoming a life-saving blood donor?"
