Love is spelled T-I-M-E
Through friends Clara Munholland Montgomery, Jo Marie Ellett Hanna and Armande McHenry Kennedy, we received a clipping from the 1912 newspaper's society column that is a "must read." The following are excerpts: "The Women's Missionary Society met with Mrs. J.M. Munholland in her cozy cottage home on the West Side in the Trenton neighborhood. At 3 o'clock, the Dixieland Boat was anchored to the shore near the now Forsythe Park, awaiting the coming of the guests who on arrival enjoyed the sail across the Ouachita River. Mrs. Munholland received the guests ushering them into her home which was beautiful and fragrant with sweet peas and nasturtiums. Mrs. Fred C. Bennett read the scripture lesson after which an interesting program of readings were given subject to discussion. The main theme of the program was "Our Service to Christ." At the conclusion of the meeting, Mrs. Munholland ushered guests to her porch where they viewed the beautiful river scenery and were cooled by refreshing breezes. They were served a tempting luncheon by the Misses Mattie McGhee, Gladys Walker, Gettie Avery, and Mary Munholland."
Clara Montgomery's granddaughter, Elizabeth (3), authored a poem that she quoted to Big Alymer Montgomery, her grandfather, "One day I was walking, then I saw a beautiful rainbow, then the sun smiled at me. It was pretty and I smiled happy at the sun. Then one day it was so beautiful that we took a walk. My mom smiled at me and my dad, and my brother smiled at me. Then we all laughed at it. And this is the end of my poem." These are the words of the daughter of Mary Laurens Montgomery Seely and her husband, Brian, of Nashville. We all wish our children were this happy! Connie Wheeler Troy always said, "I am just as happy as my least happy child." .....For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition!
