CenturyLink, Qwest merger plows ahead
CenturyLink and Denver's Qwest Communications announced late Tuesday that shareholders of both companies overwhelmingly approved all proposals related to their proposed merger.
In April, CenturyLink announced it would acquire Qwest Communications, making the Monroe company the third largest telecommunications firm in the United States.
During a special meeting held in Monroe Tuesday by CenturyLink's shareholders, more than 97 percent of the votes cast supported the proposal to issue CenturyLink common stock to Qwest shareholders in connection with the proposed merger.
