Donelon: State owes more than $200M in rebates

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says there's roughly $200 million in the state treasury that is still owed to many residents through rebates.

Donelon, who spoke late last week at a luncheon hosted by the Monroe Rotary Club, said a lot of residents are entitled to rebates for the assessment put on all property insurance policies from 2006 to 2009 in the wake of the 2005 hurricanes.

"I am urgently urging folks and continuing to remind them of it this year because for the first time, at the end of this year, half of that money will no longer be available," Donelon said.
