Changes in the updated FEMA flood maps are so numerous that the Ouachita Parish Police Jury decided to mail notices to affected residents.

The police jury on Monday agreed to spend up to $500 from its general fund to mail roughly 1,000 notices to residents who will be affected by the new FEMA flood maps. Police jurors acted on the matter at their regular meeting.

Ouachita Parish Police Jury engineer Tom Holtzclaw said there are "noted changes" with the new flood maps compared to the existing FEMA flood maps, which date to 1994.
