Stagnant economy stymies development

West Monroe officials most likely will offer a contract extension to the consulting firm that was hired in March to help the city with retail development near the Ike Hamilton Expo Center.

Eric Hale, the city of West Monroe's economic development coordinator, said the current contract with a private consulting firm ends this month, but city officials are pleased with the firm's progress. He expects the city will offer to extend the contract on a month-by-month basis.

At a meeting in March, the West Monroe Board of Aldermen approved a four-month cooperative endeavor agreement with Pointe West Partners for development of West Monroe's commercial park subdivision. Pointe West Partners includes local developer Charles Frye and Richard Hope of Dallas, who was previously with the Herring Group, one of the bigger developers in the United States.
