Lawmakers predict steep cuts ahead

For those who thought the 2010 regular legislative session was tough, they should pay attention to next year's regular session.

That was the sentiment of most northeast Louisiana lawmakers, who spoke to a crowd of more than a hundred business and community leaders Tuesday during a legislative appreciation luncheon hosted by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce.

"If you think this year was bad in the Legislature, just wait till next year," said Sen. Bob Kostelka, R-Monroe. "With the advent of the BP oil spill, the moratorium on oil production, the end of the so-called stimulus money and now the closing of Avondale Shipyard in New Orleans, the so-called (financial) cliff we've been expecting for next year now looks like Mt. Everest."
