Local team sticks together
The Monroe America All-Stars completed their season over the weekend in the 9/10-year-old division of Dixie Youth Baseball. Monroe (1-2) earned a spot in the tournament after coming from behind to win the district championship two weeks ago.
In the state tournament played at West Monroe's Biedenharn Sports Complex, Monroe America opened the tournament with a 4-3 loss to Gonzalez.
Runs were hard to come by for both teams as defense won out for much of the game. Gonzalez was able to grab a late one-run lead and hold on for the victory.
