Battle of Badges dedicated to fallen deputy

This year's Battle of the Badges will be dedicated to Cpl. J.R. Searcy, the late Ouachita Parish Sheriff's deputy who died after being shot in the line of duty in March.

Searcy's best friend from childhood, Monroe Police Cpl. Dennis Wall, has spearheaded Battle of the Badges locally for several years. Battle of the Badges is a non-profit amateur boxing show that features policemen versus firemen from across the South.

This year's event will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Monroe Civic Center.
