The Monroe City Council approved an agreement with the state Department of Transportation and Development for mowing services and litter pickup along U.S. 165 and Interstate 20 for another year.

However, some city councilmen consider the agreement with the state not to be in the city's best interest financially.

According to Monroe Public Works director Tom Janway, under the current contract with DOTD, the city of Monroe mows areas along U.S. 165 and Interstate 20 once every three weeks.
