cautions against
excluding project bidders for being delinquent on taxes


The city of Monroe must ensure it doesn't discriminate against local companies bidding on city projects, even if their local taxes are not paid up.

That's according to city attorney Nanci Summersgill, who was asked by the Monroe City Council to research the matter and report her findings to the city council. She provided her legal opinion during the council's July 13 meeting.

During a city council meeting late last month, councilman Jay Marx requested that the city council be provided with sales and property tax information on prospective bidders before the council approves them for city projects.
