Water donations sought

Volunteers of America of Northeast Louisiana is requesting water donations from local residents for the group to provide homeless citizens with water during the summer months.

According to Mel Granger, outreach addiction specialist for Volunteers of America of Northeast Louisiana, about 228 men, women, and children are homeless in Northeast Louisiana.

"It's time to start thinking about saving lives when temperatures outdoors reach beyond 90 degrees. ... We need the community's help before the summer heat reaches an intolerable point and it's too late. We need to start taking donations immediately. It's hot out there," said Granger.

Water donations can be dropped-off during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at the Volunteers of America Office at 1808 Roselawn Avenue, Monroe.

The water will be distributed to people believed to be homeless or in urgent need of drinking water.

For more information call 322-2272, ext. 418.
