A number of local candidates qualified Wednesday for the Oct. 2 election.

Qualifying began Wednesday and concludes Friday for elections for all seats on the Ouachita Parish School Board, Monroe City School Board and Sterlington's Board of Aldermen.

Qualifying also got under way Wednesday for elections for Sterlington mayor and Sterlington police chief. Qualifying began as well on Wednesday for the Division B judgeship at Monroe City Court, Monroe City Council District 2 seat and for a position on the Richwood Board of Aldermen.
