Following your passion

I still get excited when I see myself in front of a classroom of students encouraging them to follow their passion. I think the biggest mistake the majority of us make is choosing a job ... instead of choosing a vocation based upon our passion. I have had so many conversations with older men and women who tell me that "I wish that I had done this or that." Now we know there is absolutely nothing we can do about the past, but there is always something that we can do about the present.

I have been rereading a book that I read almost 20 years ago: "Entrepreneurs" by Joseph and Suzy Fucini, that describes the journey of some of our country's most successful people. There is not one person among the two hundred and twenty five biographies that did not follow their passion. Most of them were still working up until the day that they died. George Westinghouse had already become one of the wealthiest men in America many years before, but becoming wealthy did not dampen the passion that he had for inventing. He was working in his shop on a design for an electric powered wheel chair when he died.
