Parish still awaits V-Vehicle

Local officials will maintain a wait-and-see posture on whether to refund property taxes that were collected to assist V-Vehicle Co. in establishing an automobile manufacturing operation in eastern Ouachita Parish.

That's according to Ouachita Parish Police Jury President Shane Smiley. Smiley spoke to The Ouachita Citizen Tuesday afternoon about the V-Vehicle project and the fate of property taxes collected from parish property owners.

Last fall, parish voters approved a 1.8-mill property tax to help finance a $15 million incentives package that parish entities pledged to V-Vehicle. The incentives package was offered to aid V-Vehicle's efforts to set up an automobile manufacturing operation at the former Guide plant off Interstate 20.
