City of Monroe considers long-term trash contract

The Monroe City Council will consider a 15-year trash disposal agreement with Consolidated Waste Industries during its meeting next week.

According to city attorney Nanci Summersgill, Consolidated Waste Industries, which currently provides trash disposal services to the city, proposed locking in the rate the city paid for trash disposal approximately two years ago. That rate is $23.69 per ton, and it would be locked in until 2015, Summersgill said.

"This is just standard in the industry," Summersgill said. "I've talked to Alexandria, Shreveport and West Monroe, and they all are doing the same thing."
