The Monroe City Council agreed Tuesday to hire a consultant to help determine future water and sewer rates, but two councilmen opposed the move.

Councilmen Arthur Gilmore and Eddie Clark voted against the city hiring a consultant to determine future water and sewer rates.

Gilmore took issue with the consultant ultimately deciding water and sewer rates and the city would have to impose those rates without any vote by the council.
