Obituaries published on June 10, 2010 Louise Cook Morgan Mary Louise Cook Morgan, 97, died peacefully May 30, 2010, in League City, Texas, surrounded by family. She lived the last seven years near her older son and his wife, Craig and Janet Morgan, battling Alzheimer's disease. She spent most of her life in Monroe. At a later date a graveside memorial service will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Monroe.
She was born September 29, 1912, in Jonesville, LA, to Amiee Chisum and James Holt Cook, Jr. After graduation from Ouachita Parish High School, she received a teaching degree from Louisiana Tech and taught two years at Sterlington. During this time she married Gordon Lea "Skeeter" Morgan on August 11, 1935. They enjoyed their two sons, travel, and entertaining numerous friends in their Pargoud Boulevard home and on their houseboat "Playhouse" on the Ouachita River. Both were active in the community and First United Methodist Church where Louise taught the Women's Sunday School Class for many years. She was a member of the Junior League and the Monroe Garden Club. She shared the long-stemmed roses which she cultivated with friends and church. She loved to greet and welcome people to Trend House, the fine furniture and gift store the family owned in the 1960s. Louise was proud to be a breast cancer survivor from the 1950s and quietly encouraged many others in their fight.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband and three brothers, Russell, Jim and Fred Cook, she is survived by her sons, Walter Craig Morgan, (wife, Janet Mahaffey); Marlow Neil "Scooter" Morgan (wife, Kay Godfrey) of Monroe. Grandchildren are Layne Morgan Dearman (David), Wyn Morgan Bomar (Morgan), Cobb Morgan (Shawn), Marlowe Morgan Barham (Preston), Amiee Morgan Adams. Great-grandchildren are James, Walker and Charlotte Dearman; Will and Kate Bomar; Tyler and Carlee Hamby, Mary Auburn Morgan, Travis Adams.
