Monroe City Schools broke ground last week on new gymnasiums at Wossman High School and Lee Junior High School.

At Wossman, the new gym is expected to be completed within 240 work days at a cost of $4 million. Wossman alum William McElroy of Jackson, Miss., will be the lead architect for the building.

The design makes grand use of the purple "W" logo of the school outside the building and will feature many state-of-the-art amenities inside the 25,000-square-foot structure. The gymnasium will feature not just a basketball arena but also film rooms and offices for Wossman players and coaches to study game tape as well as individual training rooms for both boys and girls teams.
