OP schools fund balance nears $18M

The Ouachita Parish school system will end the current fiscal year with a small surplus in its general fund, pushing its fund balance to $17.9 million.

The 2009-2010 fiscal year ends June 30. The school system's general fund is the main operating account for Ouachita Parish Schools.

"This is a time when revenues are going down and cost is going up, so to have any kind of surplus right now is commendable," said Superintendent Dr. Bob Webber.
