Football was way of life
We had a great dad but lost him when he was only forty four years of age. Mother was a great psychologist. She knew how to discreetly motivate and encourage us by placing Daddy's scrapbooks around different tables in the house. Of course, we were not around when they both attended Louisiana College in Pineville. Daddy was a star athlete. He may have been Louisiana College's first All-American football player. He made Little All-American and was mentioned on some All-American teams.
He was an All-Stater at Crowville High School. He had signed with Northwestern State College in Natchitoches. They decided that he was too little. Daddy caught a bus and traveled down to Louisiana College where they decided his size made no difference. Louisiana College was right. At one time during his senior year he led the nation in scoring. He had scored five touchdowns in the first two games. All the information that I am sharing today came from write-ups mostly from the Alexandria Daily Town Talk where they recorded each game play by play. For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition!
