Memorial Day honors those who gave all
Monday is 'Memorial Day; all across what I believe to be the greatest nation ... not only on the face of the earth ... but in all history. Flags "fly at half mast for the countless men and women who have died in the service of this great nation. These range all the way from those who gave their lives in Iraq to that one in the 'Grave of the unknown soldier'.
All of us who are past middle age have memories of lost loved ones ... fathers, sons, daughters and friends. There are still those long ago memories of the display of stars in the window ... one ... two ... even three sons who died at war. Perhaps the most heart-rendering expression ever used in looking back at those who died ... for those of us who did not die (of whom I am one) is that we so live our lives that they will "Not have died in vain"!
Now, far above the top of that unknown list of those who died for their country, is the one who died for the whole world ... Jesus. Most of us know John 3:16 by heart ... "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son ... ". Add to that (Hebrews 2:9) "He tasted of death for every man".For the full story, subscribe to the The Ouachita Citizen's NEW E-Edition!
