Ouachita Parish Schools will implement a comprehensive physical education program for elementary schools next year thanks to a $500,000 grant from Hospital Service District No. 1.

During a special-called meeting Monday, the school board agreed to enter into a cooperative endeavor agreement with Hospital Service District No. 1, a component unit of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury.

The police jury created Hospital Service District No. 1 in the late 1950s to build a healthcare facility in western Ouachita Parish. The healthcare facility became Glenwood Regional Medical Center, now owned by IASIS Healthcare.
