ULM earns 'StormReady' designation

National Weather Service in Shreveport and the Ouachita Parish Office of Homeland Security recognized the University of Louisiana-Monroe Monday for becoming the first school in the state to become designated a StormReady university.

National Weather Service late last week announced ULM had met criteria, established by the National Weather Service, for the reception and dissemination of emergency weather information and preparedness activities. This recognition means ULM is a StormReady university through 2013. It's the first university in Louisiana to garner the designation.

"Being a StormReady university means ULM has taken the initiative to ensure its faculty, students and campus infrastructure are prepared to deal with deadly and destructive severe weather events," said Armando Garza, meteorologist in charge of the Weather Forecast Office in Shreveport.
