I hope our paths will cross again

I will never forget my first "preaching class." Our final assignment was to write a sermon from an assigned scripture. The Lord's Prayer; John 3:16; Jesus walking on the water; 1 Corinthians 13… Finally the list makes it to my row… the prodigal son, the Good Samaritan… with great anticipation I reach for my assignment… 1 Thessalonians 2:9-10… huh?

"Surely you remember brothers, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you. You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed." (NIV)

So much for brotherly love — not one person would trade with me. I had no choice but to get to work. As I began to research this passage I learned that Paul was writing about something much more important that justifying his actions.
