June fundraiser concert benefits PAWS

PAWS of Northeast Louisiana recently formed a new 501(c)3 non-profit organization for the purpose of building and operating a high volume, high quality, low-cost spay and neuter facility in Ouachita Parish.

The goal is to drastically reduce the number of unwanted pets in the community. In 2009 alone, there were 6,650 unwanted pets put to sleep at the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter.

The goal is to open this limited service veterinary facility to target low-income pet owners, rescue organizations, animal shelters and feral cat colonies. The clinic will be based on the Humane Alliance National Spay/Neuter Response Team model which has 69 similar clinics across the United States. Humane Alliance will assist in training, mentoring and support of the staff of the new facility, which will be set up to perform 25 surgeries per day, five days a week.
