Lady Rebels run at Fast Pitch 56 halted The West Monroe Lady Rebels (28-7) were tripped in the LHSAA Fast Pitch 56 tournament by a familiar foe on Friday as St. Thomas More downed the Lady Rebels 6-1 at Frasch Park to end the Lady Rebels' season. Even though it is little consolation to the West Monroe team of 2010, St. Thomas More again went on to claim the Class 5A championship on Saturday in Sulphur. Losing to the defending champions will not be something the West Monroe faithful will want to remember, but the impression that the Lady Cougar defense made may linger in local fan's memory.
The STM team shut down the WMHS offense for almost the entire day. The Lady Rebels did get a spark from one of their three departing seniors early in the game.
Catcher Sydney Williams hit an RBI single that gave the Lady Rebels the early advantage. It was the first run that STM pitcher Prophet Gaspard had surrendered in 111.1 innings pitched this season. For the full report, see Page 6B of this week's Citizen.
