Monroe anticipates sixth consecutive surplus

The city of Monroe anticipates a budget surplus for the 2009-2010 fiscal year once auditors complete their review of city records and present their findings to the city council this fall.
A surplus stemming from the current fiscal year would mark the sixth consecutive year the city of Monroe posted a budget surplus.

"I am elated and thankful once again that our city continues to perform at a high level in fiscal management," said Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo.

"Our record fund balance (overall surplus) is because of the hard work of our department heads, city employees and the support of our city council," Mayo said. "The annual business plans that are required of our department heads continue to pay off in a huge way."
