Hoffmann abortion bill awaits action in Senate Overwhelmingly approved by the House late last week, Rep. Frank Hoffmann's bill to prohibit insurance companies from covering most abortions in Louisiana moved to the Senate for consideration.
House Bill 1247 would "ensure no Louisiana taxpayer money is spent on elective abortions in the new Louisiana health exchange, recently created by federal health care laws passed in Washington, D.C., and prohibits private insurance coverage of elective abortions." The House approved the bill on a 76-13 vote.
Hoffmann is optimistic his bill will be approved by the Senate, too. For the full report, see Page 1A of this week's Citizen.
