OPSB renames library in honor of J.R. Akins

Ouachita Parish School Board approved a request by community leaders to rename Jack Hayes Elementary School's library the J.R. Akins Memorial Library.

Akins was considered the "mayor of Town and Country," according to many friends and relatives who lobbied the school board to make the name change.

Jack Hayes principal Pam Smith was hired by Akins as a teacher during the time he was principal of the school.
