Churches join to transform community Eighty-two local churches are sponsoring a free event featuring "American Idol" recording artist, Mandisa. This "Community Transformation Celebration" will be held at the Monroe Civic Center on Thursday night, May 6, 2010, at 6:30 p.m.
"The most astounding array of churches are coming together to transform our region in the name of Christ," stated Larry Stafford, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Monroe. "Mainline denominations — Pentecostals, Evangelicals, Baptists, Catholics — we are bridging race, religion, and the river to come together for this cause."
"The cause" referred to is a strategy designed to foster the spiritual, social, and economic transformation in Ouachita Parish and the surrounding region. "Pastors have been praying together for years about this" said Ike Byrd of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Monroe. "It is wonderful to see the specific plan coming together in answer to our prayers."
