Special to The Citizen

The coach who first put what was then Northeast Louisiana State College sports on the national map will return to Monroe on Saturday, April 24, for the ULM track reunion and the Warhawk Classic track meet.

Lew Hartzog coached the 1960 Northeast track team, led by the Styron Twins, to an undefeated season against some of the top teams in the country, giving the young university its first taste of national recognition.

Hartzog, who left NLSC to become track coach at Southern Illinois University in the summer of 1960, will be the featured guest at the ULM track reunion, which is open to all former track athletes at the university but will spotlight thinclads from the 1950-60 era.
