A local group has successfully lobbied Arkansas' Department of Environmental Quality for a public hearing regarding the five-year discharge permit of Georgia Pacific's Crossett paper mill.

Cheryl Slavant, CEO of Ouachita Riverkeeper, provided The Ouachita Citizen with correspondence from Arkansas DEQ about an upcoming public hearing, which will be held 6 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Crossett Middle School in Crossett, Ark.

Ouachita Riverkeeper collected a number of citizen comments to send to Arkansas DEQ to be granted a public hearing concerning Georgia Pacific's discharge permit. The meeting with Arkansas DEQ will allow citizens to provide additional comments on the draft renewal of Georgia Pacific's permit.
