Police memorial planned

During the second week of May, area police departments will join with law enforcement agencies across the country in celebration of National Police Week.

The Monroe Police Department is in the process of finalizing plans and securing funding to construct a memorial dedicated to Monroe Police officers killed in the line of duty.

The monument will be erected in the front courtyard of the department and will bear the names of six police officers: W.J. Haynie, Paul Hilton, W. R. Roberts, Tom Watson, C. M. Earle and Ocie D. Howard that thought it "an honor to serve, a duty to protect".
