Refund on police jury agenda The Ouachita Parish Police Jury is expected to discuss the refund of taxpayer monies paid toward the V-Vehicle project when police jurors meet Monday.
The Department of Energy announced last week it denied a $321 million loan V-Vehicle sought to establish an automobile manufacturing operation in Ouachita Parish. The loan would have given V-Vehicle the money it needed to have in hand to access roughly $130 million in financial incentives the state offered V-Vehicle to locate in Ouachita and $15 million in financial incentives that governing bodies in Ouachita offered V-Vehicle to locate here.
Last fall, Ouachita Parish voters approved a 1.8-mill property tax to generate revenue to pay off bonded indebtedness the cities of Monroe and West Monroe as well as the police jury would incur to pay its share, or $11.5 million, of the local incentives package. OEDC Land Corp. and the I-20 Economic Development District were responsible for the remaining balance of the $15 million local incentives package. For the full report, see Page 1A of this week's Citizen.
