Monroe readies new budget

The Monroe City Council will introduce a $56.7 million budget for the 2010-2011 fiscal year at the council's March 23 meeting.

Councilmen made some minor adjustments this week to the city's proposed spending plan for the new fiscal year.

Monroe budget officer Curtis Heard said the proposed 2010-11 fiscal year budget was similar to recent budgets except for some additional expenditures for drainage projects and increased expense for the police and firefighters' retirement systems.
