Increased payments to firefighter, police and municipal retirement systems could cost the city of West Monroe roughly $2.1 million in the 2010-2011 fiscal year.

That would be an increase of almost $650,000 over the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.

City of West Monroe finance director Benny Chelette said officials are busy crafting the 2010-11 fiscal year budget. The new fiscal year begins July 1.
