Slain deputy's wife writes about her late husband

One of Kerry Searcy's fondest memories of her late husband, J.R., was of him showing his K-9 at a local elementary school.

She remembers the way children responded to him and his dog and the joy he displayed in talking with them.

"He spent time talking with the children about safety and the importance of family," Kerry Searcy said in a written statement provided to The Ouachita Citizen.
