Four-day school week proposed for parish In light of cuts in funding for education that the Legislature is expected to make during its regular session later this year, the Ouachita Parish School Board wants staff to review the possibility of switching to a four-day week for the 2010-2011 school year.
School board member Scott Robinson requested that the school system look into the matter. He made his request Tuesday during the school board's regular meeting.
In 2008, Ouachita Parish Schools looked at the benefits of utilizing a four-day school week when gas prices soared to almost $4 per gallon, causing budgetary problems for the parish school system. The school board never acted on the possible move. For the full report, see Page 11A of this week's Citizen.
