Many years ago when someone would ask me what I wanted to do when I grow up, I would tell them I wanted to play professional baseball and then coach and teach school.
Many of my friends would respond to the same question by saying, "I want to be a doctor, a nurse, a fireman, a preacher, a school teacher or maybe an engineer." With each of these vocations the desires of the young were to work with people and satisfy the needs of the public.

I ask my grandson what he wanted to do when he grew up and he said, "I want to play golf in tournaments and make money."

I realize he is very young and the influence of his friends is speaking through him, but the focus of many of our younger generation has gone from helping others to "what is in it for me?"
