Rebels season over The West Monroe Rebels basketball team saw their season come to an abrupt finish on Friday with a 51-48 loss to the No. 25 Ponchatoula Green Wave.
Playing in the first-round of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 5A playoffs , the Rebels were haunted by missed free throws and poor rebounding on the defensive end.
West Monroe came into the game ranked as the eighth best team in the state, returning two starters from a team that played in the Class 5A state semi-final round last year. The Rebels missed four consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter. A trend of fourth quarter misses at the charity stripe was a crippling theme that was constant in many district games this season. For the full report, see Page 4B of this week's Citizen.
