City breaks ground on sidewalk project
The city of Monroe held a groundbreaking Wednesday near South 3rd Street and Beauregard Street for an estimated $200,000 side walk project.
The Monroe City Council approved the estimated $200,000 project in December 2009. The sidewalk project will be on the east side of South 3rd Street from Plum Street to Winnsboro Road.
The project will be funded through a Community Development Block Grant received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Community Development Recovery Appropriation funds. The five feet wide sidewalk will be constructed by E.R. Lawrence Contractors.
