Dozens of teams to compete in tourney Softball fans will find Ouachita Parish feeling a little bit like heaven this weekend when the 2010 Polar Bear Classic softball tournament begins play at parks all around the area.
Games will begin at 3 p.m. Friday. As many as four games will be played at Neville, Ouachita, West Ouachita, West Monroe, Sterlington, OCS, Bendal Field at Forsythe Park and the ULM Softball complex. More than 40 teams — including varsity, junior varsity, and junior high school — will be competing as well as staying in hotels across the region, making an immediate local impact.
Neville head coach Jeff Tannehill is the organizer of the second annual event. The Lady Tigers return six starters and will been leaning on that experience in their home games of this tournament. Neville begins the tournament at home Friday at 3 p.m. against Northshore of Lafayette. Neville will play again immediately following that game against Beau Chene. Neville will be tested Saturday when they play the 2009 Class 3A state runner-up Lutcher at 9 a.m., followed at 1 p.m. by a game against the defending Class 3A champion, Parkview Baptist School of Baton Rouge.
