Internal investigation focuses on alleged recordings

Following a meeting with Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo on Tuesday, Monroe Police Chief Ron Schleuter was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation over allegations that Schleuter secretly recorded conversations with public officials, including Mayo.

Schleuter was placed on administrative leave with pay until the conclusion of the internal investigation.

According to a news release from the city of Monroe, Schleuter admitted to secretly recording Monroe City Council members, Mayo and other local officials.
