Story Archives: Calhoun hopes census will bring smaller district

Calhoun hopes census will bring smaller district
by Scott Rogers - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Ouachita Parish Police Jury is expected to undergo redistricting next year to reflect changes shown in the 2010 Census.

District B police juror Mack Calhoun hopes his district will contract in size. He said District B currently has roughly the same number of people as the other five police jury districts.

"My district is extremely large, and I represent almost half of the parish, and in my opinion that's too much for one person to look at," Calhoun said. "We have so many roads and so many problems. There's almost as many permits for new buildings in my district as there are in the whole parish."
