Engel delights English-Speaking Union A nationally-known speaker and a foremost authority on Charles Dickens, Dr. Elliot Engel delighted and entertained the English-Speaking Union on Thursday, Jan. 28, at a Bayou DeSiard Country Club dinner meeting.
Engel averages 2,500 lectures a year, from town hall meetings of several hundred to eager elementary school students.
With more than 50 literary topics, he is on demand for his witty and engaging style. He chose for his 24th Monroe speaking engagement "The Scottish Genius of Robert Burns." Minette Saber, program vice-present, recognized Jan Hayden, the founder of the Monroe ESU Branch, before her clever introduction of Dr. Engel.
