V-Vehicle project grinds ahead slowly

The U.S. Department of Entergy recently notified the Ouachita Parish Police Jury it will conduct an environmental assessment of V-Vehicle Co.'s proposed expansion of the former Guide plant.

The Energy Department must conduct the environmental assessment as part of V-Vehicle's request for a $320 million loan from the government. V-Vehicle needs the government loan to meet financial requirements the state and local governments put in place for V-Vehicle to meet. V-Vehicle must meet the financial requirements by March 1 to secure local and state incentives.

Local state governments granted some $145 million in incentives to aid V-Vehicle's efforts to begin manufacturing fuel-efficient automobiles at the former Guide plant ineastern Ouachita Parish.
