One local funeral director wants the Ouachita Parish Police Jury to look into the policy regarding pauper funeral services.

Currently, funeral homes within the parish provide pauper funeral services on a rotating basis, meaning each funeral home handles pauper funerals in the parish for about a week at a time.

Rick Miller with Miller Funeral Home said there has been an increase in the number of pauper funerals handled by local funeral homes. In most cases, funeral homes wind up absorbing the cost of provide the funerals.
